My name is Nienke Adamse and I am a maker.
My works are made with natural materials that I either find, such as birch bark, branches, clay, etc. or grow; gourds are one of my favorites. I like to use decorative styles from cultures all over the world and I combine them to make an object that is useful and nice to look at. For my 2-D art works I look for a scene that moves me and I use that as inspiration. I use various techniques for my art, such as drawing, painting, watercolor and collages. Here, my inspiration comes from nature and other cultures as well. You will often see bright colors with a natural background, to emphasize how colors as well as decorations can make a hard life bearable. My art and works are part of my longing for a world that no longer exists; it’s a longing for a world of simple living in and with nature with music, decorations and colors to celebrate life. It is a world where hand-made products radiate the warmth of the materials and skills and passion of the maker.
